Tēnā koutou e ngā kaupoi o Tamaki Nui a Rua!!
Kia Ora to all our Dannevirke horse riders!
A while a go, while my girls were riding their hōiho on the back roads, a car sped past them and beeped...luckily not scaring the horses but naturally p***d me right off!
I wanted an opportunity to educate our community about how to pass safely while any one of us are riding on our roads..and seen this come up!
So I've put my hand up to organise a ride within Dannevirke to educate our hāpori and band together and enjoy a fun day riding while doing so.
This is a worldwide event happening, and Dannevirke is right in the mix!
Safety is paramount! So helmets and Hi-vis gear is a must. We also hope to have the support of local Police and Council to make sure we're not met with any uproar of any kind.
This is a safe, inclusive event for all ages as long as you have a horse and can confidently ride you can come join us for the day, alternatively we welcome walkers to join us on this day to really get the message across!
The date is set for either 13th or 14th September, weather pending, and avail pending on all of you and Police.
Outcome for this event: To educate the Dannevirke community around passing horses safely on the roads, so all of our tamariki and whānau will be safe riding!
How can you help if you don't ride?: Come along and help guide on the day, come to the hui and have an input on the best route to take, be the comms person for us, be the cook on the BBQ, walk alongside us! Endless ways to support the kaupaps!
