This is a walk of 11 miles or thereabouts starting from Wye, however on this one we will explore a few places, that haven't featured on an Ashford Ramblers group walk, since the dark days of the Covid-19 pandemic. The route starts low level, but no walk is really complete without a decent climb, so up to the Downs we ascend nicely, as the circuit progresses.
We commence through the churchyard, but on this one for a change, we go left across farmland and fields beside Wye Court, crossing Sparrows Bridge en route to Bilting. Our route turns right, to cross the railway line, and shortly afterwards the Great Stour via a delightful bridge, climbing up the field, to the road towards Olantigh.
We continue to climb, before heading across to Wye Downs, joining the North Downs Way above Wye Crown. Now on more familiar territory for the most, we stride out along the ridge to the Nature Reserve, to pass above the Devil's Kneading Trough.
The route descends through the trees and across farmland to arrive at the village of Brook, before we return on the flat through Withersdane and back to Wye.
There will of course be our usual short picnic lunch stop, whilst the New Flying Horse is our regular post walk pub visit on a day out at Wye.
Dogs welcome, but on a short lead when required.
