Celebrating 33 years of making music Asheville-based Deep River plays a blend of Prime Country & Yacht Rock plus a few originals. Audiences will hear the 80’s and 90’s country sounds of Patty Loveless, Kathy Mattea, Shania, Dolly and others mixed with the soft rock sounds of America, Fleetwood Mac, The Doobie Brothers and the Eagles, just to name a few.
Sharon Lewis founded Deep River as a country band in 1992 with three women singing all the lead and harmony vocals fronting the Band supported by three talented guys on the back line for perfect yin-yang energy.
In 1993 Sharon and her now wife Sandy Howard moved to Nashville seeking a record deal, and between 1993-2003 Deep River sang with Country Music Hall of Fame Member Vince Gill, and opened for Country Music Hall of Fame Member Charlie Louvin, Grand Ole Opry Member Mark Wills and the ‘First Lady of Bluegrass’ Wilma Lee Cooper.
While in Nashville Sharon and Sandy recorded three CDs, writing, co-writing and performing songs, two of which, ‘Civil War’ and ‘Silver Eagle’, received ‘honorable mention’ from Music Row magazine’s Robert K. Oermann, and one of those, ‘Silver Eagle’, received radio airplay on small market country stations around the US. In 2015 ‘Civil War’ received radio airplay on Asheville’s KISS Country 99 FM.
In 2019 Deep River opened for Grammy-winning country star Kathy Mattea at The Don Gibson Theatre in Shelby, NC.
In addition to Sharon on bass guitar and vocals and Sandy on vocals, the current line-up includes Nita Smith on vocals, as well as Asheville Music School instructors Alec Fehl on lead guitar and Justin Watt on drums; Peter Millis on acoustic guitar and Kevin Sanders on keys round out the Band.
Weekend Live Music
Highland Brewing weekend live music showcases amazing bands including local favorites, talented regional acts, and national touring bands hailing from the East Coast and beyond. Free and open to guests of all ages (unless noted otherwise), bring your crew to dance, listen and vibe to a myriad of genres including soul, bluegrass, acoustic, country, folk, R&B and more!
In warmer months, live music is held on the scenic Meadow stage where camp chairs and blankets are welcome. Coolers and outside beverages are not permitted. Shows are rain or shine – if the skies don’t cooperate, the music moves indoors to the Taproom where we’ve got plenty of room for you to boogie down!
