We are bodies largely made of water, are we not? So much of us is fluid, even our bones are 20%-25% water by weight. Our fat, our blood, our tears, they are all fluids; all the waters of the world, including our bodies, are part of the same waters that were and will be on earth.
This day-long workshop is were we get to dance with poetry. I will be blending anatomical knowledge of fluids in the body with metaphor and dance. This workshop will be based largely in dance improvisation with oneself as well as with the group.
Some inspiration of this work also comes from post-humanism or rather, a return to animism. Where we see ourselves not as separate from "nature" but see ourselves as nature. Where we hold the tides and salty waves in our bodies, where have rivers and lakes and oceans within us.
My hope is that, at the end of this workshop, you will leave feeling the ever changing waters within you as a rippling reflection of the world at large. That you feel filled with beingness and reverence towards the immense complexity of your forms and that of the world around you. This event is an exploration, a dance, a poem, and a prayer.
In a time that we have been deeply affected here in the Appalachian mountains by Helene, may we reweave our relationship to the waters. Come and move and learn and pray with me.
