Pressure Makes Diamonds

Written and performed live on stage by Anthony Valbiro. When the other kids in Port Chester, NY ran outside to play after school, young Anthony Valbiro raced to his basement rec room—to draw the curtains, flip on a spotlight, grab a microphone, cue the reel-to-reel, and croon his heart out.
Through narration, monologues, and flashbacks, Anthony pulls us into the “quest for fame” that shaped his 1960s childhood.
A funny, engaging autobiographical play about growing up in a big, theatrical Italian family—where everyone has advice and no one lacks an opinion. He brings to life a vivid cast of characters from his youth.
Along the way, the play asks: Who shapes us? What is success? And what does it cost to chase our dreams?
