Warra National Park - Overnight Hike
What
An overnight hiking trip to a lesser-known local national park with large granite formations surrounded by dry sclerophyll forest and heath land which should be full of spring flowers. Possibilities include
- Scrambling to the top of granite domes
- Exploring creek lines and hanging swamps
- Camping in granite tunnels
Warra national park is 1 and a half hours NE of Armidale and is 4WD only access.
When: 13-14 of September 2025
Itinerary
- Saturday
o Leave Armidale early approx. 0800
o Drive to Gibralter range
o Explore
- Sunday
o walk back to car
o Return home
Gear/equipment: - contact Andrew Woolley if you need or want advice or to hire gear from the club. Note there is a limited supply.
Food
o 2 lightweight hiking dinners (1 as a spare)
o Snacks
o 2x lunches
o 1x breakfast
o Utensils
o Bowl/plate
o Cooking equipment – (can be shared or hire can be arranged)
Water
Will be available during walk but may require side trips. Water catchment will be entirely within the national park. Bring 3 L and some form of purification e.g. chlorine tablets or LifeStraw.
Equipment
o Tent (can share or hire)
o Sleeping bag (can hire)
o Sleeping mat (can hire)
o Warm clothes (jumper, beanie, gloves long clothes to wear to bed)
o Overnight hiking back pack (can hire)
o Rain coat
o Hiking boots or comfortable joggers
o torch
Transport:
As it is a significant drive carpooling is suggested and the plan is to leave early 0800 Saturday morning after meeting at sport UNE.
