**Marvellous and Mysterious Myxomycetes**
Slime moulds (Myxomycetes) have surely been lumbered with the most unappealing of names for a taxonomic group. But to those who appreciate them, slime moulds are a fascinating and attractive group. Karina Knight will share with you the beauty and wonders of these tiny organisms.
Karina comes to us from extensive experience in Herbaria and Herbarium Management with a career spanning 36 years at the Western Australian Herbarium – the last 15 years as the Collections Manager and Volunteer Co-ordinator.
Before retiring in mid-2019, Karina’s early research interest was in fungi, where she attended the inaugural Fungimap conference in 2001 held at Denmark, W.A.
Karina’s focus switched to Myxomycetes when a volunteer at the Herbarium opened her eyes to this marvellous and mysterious world; from 2015 Karina began to actively pursue her interest.
Since that time Karina has documented her findings by the addition of just over 1,000 collections to the Herbarium which includes just over 45 new species recorded for W.A.
Karina has to date described two new species with potential of other new species under research with international partners.
