Jim Ford, a retired USAF veteran, natural beekeeper, and founder of The Pines Apiary and Woodenware, LLC, has been tending bees in Riley Township, MI since 2014. Inspired by his mentor Chef Francois Faloppa while studying culinary arts at Macomb Community College, Jim quickly became a leader in the beekeeping community, taking over the MCC Bee Squad after Francois’ passing and later serving as President of the Pine River Beekeeping Club. Known for his hands-on teaching style, Jim runs beginner beekeeping classes, supports schools and local beekeepers, and designs award-winning custom hives. Alongside him, Treasurer Chef Scott O’Farrell helps manage club operations, while Secretary Claire Kapral, a Chippewa Valley High School teacher, began her beekeeping journey in 2017 through Jim’s class and now maintains her own apiary, inspired by the profound impact of bees on humanity.
