Arlington formed its sole official Sister City partnership with Bad Königshofen, Germany, in 1951–52, born from Arlington’s community‑driven humanitarian effort to send food and clothing to refugees in the small Bavarian town. That friendship endures as one of the longest‑running U.S. sister‑city affiliations, commemorated most recently in a 2023 recommitment ceremony attended by leaders and delegates from both communities. Over the decades, exchange visits, cultural events, and monuments—such as “Arlington‑Park” in Bad Königshofen and a peace monument in Arlington—have symbolized the enduring bond.
