What is Craftivism? And what does crafting have to do with activism?
With this event, we’d like to invite the activist community, as well as the curious, to come learn more about Craftivism, and hopefully get inspired to think differently about what being an activist can look like.
The workshop will include a presentation, in which we will answer, what Craftivism is, by seeing how the Craftivist movement itself defines the term, and looking at examples of how crafts historically, as well as contemporarily, has been used in activism, also giving us inspiration for strategies to use.
We’ll be breaking down the ‘Craftivist’ term, looking closer at what defines ‘Crafts’, and we’ll together try to answer, what defines ‘activism’? What defines an ‘activist’? With this new collective understanding of Craftivism, we’ll then discuss, in what ways we can use crafts in our activism.
At the end of the workshop, you’ll be asked to pick a social or political issue, for a (possible or existing) campaign, and asked to visualise your idea, for how you could use craftivism as a means. You’ll get a chance to present your idea, and have people give you feedback. Meaning, you’ll be able to leave the workshop, with a fully formed idea, of how craftivism could be used in your own campaign moving forward.
