What is water marbling or ebru?
An ancient art form that originated in Central Asia and traveled along the Silk Road to present-day Turkey. It has traditionally been used for decorating letters, book covers, and documents.
Using brushes made of horsehair, prepared pigments are dripped onto the surface of thickened water. The floating pigments are then shaped with various tools, creating unique abstract patterns that are carefully transferred to an absorbent surface, such as paper or fabric.
Tsvetomir Iliev is a self-taught artist with many years of experience in painting. He specializes in the technique of painting on water – Ebru. He has facilitated numerous workshops both nationally and internationally.
