The workshop will focus on learning original arrangements as a percussion ensemble of two traditional folk songs from the repertoire of RIGÓ choir: a Swedish polska and a Brazilian samba. The course will end in a joint concert with the choir at turkis, where the workshop participants will present their work. The workshop will be taught by the Portuguese-Brazilian composer and multi-instrumentalist, Tiago Candal.
Participants will get the chance to try different instruments and be introduced to various techniques and styles, such as the characteristics of polska and samba, as well elements of Iberian, North African and South American rhythms through the mixed-aesthetic arrangements written by Tiago. The main objective is to work as a group exploring the roles present in the ensemble and the counterpoint between the different parts that result in complex rhythmic patterns.
As the workshop is based on the interplay between different instruments and roles, participants of different levels will find challenges equal to their own level and interest.
