Join Friends of the Dunes for our Native Planting Day on Saturday, January 24, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, at the Humboldt Coastal Nature Center, 220 Stamps Lane, Arcata. Community members are invited to help plant native dune mat species at our restoration site that was once completely dominated by invasive plants. Now that the invasive species are removed, we are working to speed up the site’s recovery by planting 15,815 native dune mat plants, grown by our partners at Samara Restoration. Come support local habitat restoration and help native plants return to this coastal landscape.
Gloves, tools, and training will be provided! Please wear closed-toed shoes and comfortable clothes that you are willing to get dirty. RSVPs are encouraged and appreciated. Meet at the Humboldt Coastal Nature Center, 220 Stamps Lane, Arcata, CA 95518. Carpooling is highly encouraged.
This restoration project at the Friends of the Dunes Humboldt Coastal Nature Center is funded by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, and supported multiple by agencies and organizations, including the Bureau of Land Management, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, California State Coastal Conservancy, Humboldt Bay National Wildlife Refuge, US Fish and Wildlife Service, Redwood Community Action Agency, and Samara Restoration.
