History Speaks: Roller Skating Mania 19th C. Style

There were roller skating rinks in almost every town during the 1880's and 1890's. Races, dancing on wheels, costumed skating, live band music, and even a one-legged skating acrobat who toured local rinks, were some of the activities found during the early days of the roller-skating trend. Where were these rinks, and what happened to them? The one that was in Pike recently burned, so another landmark is lost to time. Popular speaker Jane Oakes gives us a look back at this social sport.
The program is approximately one hour in length and will be held at the Arcade Historical Society’s Old Fire Hall, 15 Liberty Street. The lecture hall will open half an hour before the program.
