We’ll cover how to hold your hook, how to tension your yarn, how to choose yarn, how to read a pattern and various other important topics. You’ll learn how to chain, work single crochet, double crochet and half double crochet stitches. At the end of the three classes, you’ll have made a braided headband or neck warmer.
Tools and Supplies:
Yarn - any bulky weight yarn, wool, animal fiber or a mix of animal fiber and acrylic or nylon is recommended. Yarns with plant fibers are not recommended. A variety of appropriate yarns are available at Casting On. I recommend lighter colored yarns with a smooth twist (Malabrigo Mecha) – no fuzziness or mohair.
Hook – US J-10 (6.0mm) or sz needed for gauge
Notions – 6-10 locking stitch markers, tapestry needle, flexible tape measure and scissors
All tools and supplies are available at Casting On for an additional cost.
Pattern: No pattern is required. The guide booklet, including pattern, will be emailed to participants after their payment is received and email address is confirmed.
What you need to know: Nothing, we’re starting at the very beginning.
What you’ll learn: Chaining, single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, stitch abbreviations, tensioning yarn, tips for keeping track of stitches and much, much more.
Thank you for signing up for a class at Casting On! We appreciate your business. Payment for class is required at sign up to secure your spot in class. You may cancel a class up to 1 week prior to the start of class and the class fee will be returned to you as store credit. Our instructors rely on these classes being full as part of their livelihood. While we do maintain a waitlist, we can’t utilize it for last minute cancellations which hurts our instructor’s income. For this reason, last minute cancellation or failure to come to class without prior arrangements will not result in class fees credited.
Missed classes can be made up as a private lesson by contacting the class instructor within a week of the missed class. The class fee paid will be used as a credit towards the arranged private lesson. Time = fee, ie a $20 class is equivalent to a 30 min private lesson. If the private lesson goes beyond the equivalent, you will be charged the private lesson rate of $10/15min.
You are encouraged to pay in store (no invoice processing fees) and choose supplies for the class, please plan to do this prior to the day of class.
