The Marrar Woorn Neighbourhood House, in conjunction with the Apollo Bay Theatre Collective, hosts the FREE Acoustic Music Group for currently enrolled secondary school students each Monday afternoon during the school term.
The tutor for the Acoustic Music Group is local retired secondary music teacher Wayne Simmons who has had over 40 years experience working in schools. Wayne was also Musical Director for the ABTC productions in 2023 and 2024.
The group is open to young people currently enrolled in secondary school. Participants should have some experience playing an instrument such as guitar, acoustic bass, violin, mandolin, banjo, piano, accordion, flute, light percussion and/or singing. The aims of the group are:
– to cover a broad range of musical styles including reimagining pop and rock songs in an acoustic style, folk, country and music of other cultures
– to have some focus on helping participants to learn songs that they are personally interested in
– to develop ensemble skills such balance, timing, style and performance preparation
– to help participants improve their instrumental and vocal skills
Young people thinking of joining should also be open to broadening their musical horizons, working collaboratively and preparing performances.
Sessions run in the Neighbourhood House from 5 to 6.30pm on Mondays during the school term. Parents are required to complete a consent form prior to their child's commencement.
Term 2 Dates: 28 April, 5, 12, 19, 26 May, 2, 16, 23, 30 June.
