The world-famous Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra is stopping off in Antwerp for the first time in its history. Led by legendary Korean honorary conductor Myung-whun Chung, the orchestra showcases what it does so brilliantly: bringing great classics back to life. This time, two Russian masterpieces take centre stage. With unparalleled technical finesse and deep musicality, none other than Maxim Vengerov performs Tchaikovsky’s iconic Violin Concerto, a work that never ceases to enchant. Afterwards they dive into Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring. The premiere of this groundbreaking ballet in 1913 sent a shockwave through the music world. The pounding rhythms, bold timbres and sharp contrasts sounded revolutionary at the time. Today too they continue to fascinate and inspire generations of music lovers.
