Join Salsa champions Jaime Jesus & Mary-Grace for PART 2 of their immersive intermediate-level workshops suitable for all Salsa on-1 dancers of an "Improver" to "Intermediate" experience level.
This is a wonderful opportunity to learn from two of Australia's most accomplished Salsa dancers to upskill your own dancing. Whatever your experience level, these workshops will layer-in new ideas and understandings that will elevate your dancing and enjoyment.
You do not need to have attended the previous workshops.
These Salsa on-1 workshops will explore, for both leaders and followers:
1. “The Art of Redirection in Partner Work”
Focus: How to safely and stylishly change direction mid-move—using elasticity, timing shifts, and tension to lead or follow redirections fluidly.
Why it matters: Redirection adds surprise, variety, and control. Without it, dancing can feel predictable or forced.
2. “Anchor & Release: Controlling Momentum in Partner Work”
Focus: Teaches how to stop, redirect, or extend momentum intentionally—using anchors, elasticity, and well-timed release in turn patterns and shines.
Why it matters: This gives dancers better control, safety, and smoothness—especially in fast or complex combos.
3. “Initiation vs. Execution: The Two-Phase Lead”
Focus: Breaks down the moment a lead begins (initiation) versus when it completes (execution), helping both partners recognize and respond at the right moment.
Why it matters: Leads become clearer, follows become faster, and the dance becomes more fluid when both understand these distinct phases.
Jaime Jesus and Mary-Grace are world-renowned instructors and performers who have earned multiple national titles. Jaime has also choreographed for the TV show Dancing with the Stars and has been recognised five times globally (London, India, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Australia) for his outstanding contribution to the world of Latin Dance. Mary-Grace is a phenomenal dancer with a fierce on-stage presence and a flawless, adaptable connection on the social dance floor.
You will change partners during the workshops. You do not need to enrol with a partner.
Please note that the sale of Follower passes often closes early so that we can keep the Leader/Follower ratio as even as possible.

There will also be a Latin Utopia Salsa & Bachata Party from 8pm on Saturday 26th April. Please note that you are very much welcome and encouraged to attend but that the workshops pass does not include entry to the party.
** Are these suitable for me? **
These intermediate-level workshops are suitable for all Salsa on-1 dancers who can lead or follow at least: basic step, simple right turns, simple left turns, cross body lead and inline turn (travelling turn). The workshop content will be most suitable for students in our Salsa Level 3 and 4 classes or equivalent. Non-DC students are welcome.

For this afternoon of workshops with these world-class instructors, here is your investment in your dance education:
Full pass (3 hours): $90 (equal to $30/hour)

These workshops will be held at Dance Culture, 1st Floor, 474 Ipswich Road, Annerley. The entrance leading up to the studio can be found between Yesterday's Thrift Shop and Lifeline's Vintage Revival. We are right on the intersection of Ipswich Rd and Annerley Rd. 99 Bikes is across from us.

Please bring water and some snacks to recharge your energy. Wear what you'd normally wear to a dance class :)
