About the event

Heroes' journey Game (Hiking the Arb) (Reflection, Sharing personal stories)
What:
We each have our own path in life. Along our journey we overcame adversity, met friends, and witnessed amazing things. This is a game where we hike around the Arb, meet people, and connect with them and ourselves while viewing our lives and deeds through a mythological lens. You are the hero of your story. Your experiences provide unique insights and skills. Let's reflect on them and share.

Where:
We’ll Meet at the peony garden in the Arb

When:
3pm

Technological requirements:
A journal, a pen and
A phone that has a timer. We will be setting a number of alarms so that we can move through the Arb together meeting people along the way.

I will provide a map, QR codes to google map destinations, a personalized destination list, and question cards.

How:
TLDR:
Every 20 minutes your timer will go off. This signals your time to literally move to your next destination, (I will give you a map and a list of destinations) and figuratively recollect/contemplate the next phase of your past (for instance, ages 10-20) As you walk to your next destination, choose a card question that resonates with that time period. When you arrive at your destination you will meet a new partner; take turns sharing your reflections and active listening (a practice of listening to understand and not to respond, giving your partner your full attention and waiting until they are done to ask them if they are open to your reflections and/or questions)

When the last timer goes off, we will all as a group meet back at the entrance where we started to reflect and share about our experience.

Longer version:
Every participant gets question cards. If you don’t like a question you can write your own.
I will give you a map. The map will have a number of DESTINATIONS.

We will set a number of timers on our phones, Every 20 minutes. If we start at 3pm, We'll have timers set for 3:20pm, 3:40, 4:00, 4:20 etc.

a) Every time a timer goes off, look up your next destination and start traveling there.

b) Pick a card to reflect on as it relates to a certain period in your past. (or future)

c) When you reach a destination, if there is another player there trade stories. Practice active listening. Be curious. Ask questions. Trade questions if you like. Journal a little. When the next timer goes off, repeat steps a, b & c.

When the last timer goes off, we’ll all travel back to the start location where we'll gather again to talk about our experience.

Accessibility option: If you don't want to risk navigating the Arb's terrain, you can still play. Just pick a destination and stay there and the other players will travel to you. Just let me know if you want to play this way ahead of time so I can plan out destinations for all participants.

I need at least 5 people to play and can only (at this time) run with a maximum of 8 players. First 8 to commit gets to play this time.
