Join us at Booksweet on Saturday, July 19 for a reading from local author Halli Starling! Halli will read from her queer historical fiction Coup de Coeur. We will also have author Q&A, book signings, and light refreshments. We hope to see you there!

About Halli Starling

Halli Starling is a queer librarian fascinated by the occult and strange history. She lives in Michigan with her spouse, feline supervisors, and is always surrounded by books.

When not writing, she co-hosts The Human Exception podcast, plays D&D, and dives into secondhand bookstores. She is a video game fan, preferring RPGs and strategy games, particularly the old school Bioware games like Dragon Age and Mass Effect.

Halli spent over a decade working reference desks in public libraries, then switched to working in another part of the book world while still supporting libraries and the freedom to read. She started writing her debut book, WILDERWOOD, during the pandemic, after spending years trying to find the right story to tell.  While she writes books across genres, Halli always puts characters first.

About Coup de Coeur

A queer historical fantasy/romance set in a version of 1899 New York City where magic is common and convenient, Coup de Coeur follows the journey of three men whose fates are tied to the seemingly sudden appearance of a strange, possibly sentient, grimoire.Magic, love, lust, fear, and danger run rampant as this strange book becomes the catalyst for a much larger plot conducted by a secret sect known as The Golden Order. With The Golden Order giving chase to retrieve the book, Calix, Ethaniel, and Aubrey’s lives tangle and they must flee the city to separate Calix from the book, shake off their pursuers, and find time for their burgeoning attractions.COUP DE COEUR has deep roots in the real-life queer history of New York City, but also in art and culture.
