Chimeric Womb

Chimeric Womb is an immersive one-day multimedia exhibition and performance produced in collaboration with Kim DeBord, a Korean American fiber artist, and Ginny Jiang, a Chinese choreographer. The installation incorporates a large-scale, two-channel video depicting the abstract internal space of a womb, along with an award-winning performance video, Chimera: Phylogenesis (2024) in a loop displayed on low-height movable monitors, heat lamps, a pale red-colored rug, and amorphously shaped beanbags.

The multimedia installation, functioning both as an exhibition space and a stage for live performance, visualizes an environment where the audience experiences being nurtured in a “Chimeric Womb”—one that is hatching a newly imagined body of connected Asian+ women, Chimera. By definition, a Chimera is an organism composed of mixed genetic tissues.

Through the audiovisuals of bodily mutation and breathing womb, the exhibition creates the sites of plural connections, liberating morphology, and symbiotic co-evolutions. The work invites the audience to be immersed in this transformative imagination, and be an integral part of a Chimera.

The live performance starting at 7 PM will visualize the collective, bodily connections of performers, the audience, and a chimeric womb, celebrating diverse, extended forms of Asian femininity and proliferation.
