Discovering Kapampángan Psychology

The Kapampángan language is rich in untranslatable vocabularies that reveal distinct concepts unique to their Culture, like LUÁLU, to defend those who can not defend themselves, MÁNIGLÓ, a critique on parvenu and upstarts, and SÚNÛ, a single word that embodies sarcasm, irony, passive-aggressive reaction, provocation, breaking the limits, pushing the boundaries, etc. all rolled into one. It is therefore safe to say that Kapampángans have their own values, their own world view, and a line of thought distinct from other Philippine ethnic groups. They have a different approach to anger, to tragedies and misfortune, of handling grief, as well as sharing joys and blessings. 

So should Kapampángans have their own Psychology? Do they have their own way of understanding the Self, the human mind, behaviour, emotions and mental processes?

The Kapampángan Language Services Unit, in cooperation with the Ágúman Sínúpan Singsing, Inc. and Springwater initiates Pámandúlap king Sikolóyíyang Kapampángan (Discovering Kapampángan Psychology), the first of a discussion series that attempts to discover and formulate the beginnings of Kapampángan Psychology.

Psychologists, Psych majors, guidance councillors, Kapampángan culture-bearers, cultural advocates, as well as Philo and Anthro majors are most welcome to attend our unit’s first outreach forum for this year.

This will be held on 2025 June 28, 2:00-5:00 PM at Springwater Health and Wellness, 290 A. Luna St., Mainpis, 2000 City of San Fernando.
