Kapampángan: The Forgotten "Chinese"?

Due to the colonial experience, Kapampángans were used by the Spaniards to suppress every Chinese rebellion in Manila. The Kapampángans developed a certain disdain and a sense of superiority over the Chinese because of this. Yet, the Kapampángans feel a closer kinship with the Chinese than they do with the other ethnic groups in the islands, Chinese food always bring a taste of home and nostalgia, and Kapampángan kinship terms like Ingkung, Atchi and Kóya, are definitely Chinese.

In celebration of the Filipino-Chinese Friendship Day, the Kapampángan Language Services Unit and the Ágúman Sínúpan Singsing, Inc. presents a lecture on Kapampángan-Chinese historical relations that may shed light on thiese on 2025 June 7, Saturday, 8:30-11:30 AM at the Sínúpan Singsing Center for Kapampángan Cultural Heritage, 2nd Floor of the Angeles City Library & Information Center.
