About the CALS Course
The Comprehensive Advanced Life Support (CALS) course provides an interactive and immersive training experience across cardiac, traumatic, pediatric, obstetrical, neonatal, and medical emergency care.

Course materials emphasize the CALS Universal Approach — a systematic method for evaluating and treating critically ill or injured patients, especially in resource-limited settings.
This training is designed for healthcare professionals to practice infrequently used lifesaving skills in a safe, team-oriented environment. Courses are limited to 24 participants, and priority is given to rural providers.

Skills Taught Include:
The CALS Universal Approach
Trauma Patient Assessment
Video Laryngoscopy
Cricothyrotomy
Needle Thoracostomy
Chest Tube Insertion
Percutaneous Pericardiocentesis
Vascular Access (IO and Ultrasound Assisted)
Emergency Deliveries
Umbilical Catheterization
Pelvic Wrap

Traction Splint Application
Bleeding Control (Wound Packing, Tourniquet Application)
FAST Exam

Course Objectives:
Demonstrate problem-solving in diverse clinical situations, identifying key threats and interventions.
Clarify and apply the roles of each team member in patient evaluation and treatment.
Perform skills consistent with your scope of practice within the advanced life support team.

Eligibility
Participants must hold an Advanced Life Support credential: MD, DO, PA-C, ANP, RN, or Paramedic.
(EMTs, CHAPs, CNAs, and CMAs are not currently eligible — new tracks are in development for future inclusion.)
