Special Event: Bury Me

Bury Me is a one-of-a-kind production never seen before on Iowa stages. The play stars four deaf actors using interpretive ASL to act out the entire show while four English speaking translators simultaneously translate the production. Written by local playwright Grant Freeman, specifically for this production, the play is a modern re-telling of Antigone by Sophocles. After a long battle with illness, Paul decides to end his life with a letter to his family. He leaves all of his belongings, including the family home, to his sisters, Andi and Izzy. The catch: the estranged sisters must decide together what to do with the house. Over the course of three days, the sisters grapple with loss and each other. This story focuses on the real life struggles of those in the deaf community giving voice to areas regularly set in silence.
