Camilla Balshaw - Named: A Story Of Names And Reclaiming Who We Are
A Memoir of Belonging, Family and the Stories We Carry
What's in a name? A provocative new memoir explores the power behind the labels we carry.
When Prince famously replaced his name with a symbol, it was more than a publicity stunt—it was a radical act of self-definition. In NAMED: A Story of Names And Reclaiming Who We Are , debut author Camilla Balshaw delivers a personal investigation into the names that shape us—and what happens when they don’t fit. Carrying a name that has taken her from a childhood growing up in Luton to an accidental singing career in Tokyo, to her current home in Norfolk, coincidentally, close to the Sandringham residence of her namesake, Queen Camilla. NAMED explores the journey of a name and why our names matter.
The Provocations:
● How would you feel if your name felt like "a pair of ill-fitting jeans"?
● What if the name you’ve lived with for 25 years never truly belonged to you?
● Can we ever truly escape the weight of the names we’re given?
