Dear Lebanese Outdoor Adventurers (LOA), Join us this Sunday for a cultural hiking tour and caving in Akoura
The charming village of Akoura is well-renowned for its succulent apples, dry & cool climate, its old churches, heritage landmarks, and the extraordinary hospitality of its residents.
Our day will begin with an interesting cultural hike in Akoura. The hike will start at the Akoura Secret Lake and end at Saydet el Habes. The trail's highlights include St. George Church, once known as the Helios Temple, St. Peter and Paul church, with its carved caves that were once thought to be the graves of ancient Phoenician priests, a big lake, heritage landmarks, and Saydet el Habes. (Distance: 6km /Duration: 3 hours / Level Easy)
After the hike, we will have a guided caving tour inside Rweiss Grotto.o The Rweiss Grotto is Lebanon's second largest cave, with massive cavities surrounded by dazzling rocks, exotic formations, streams and waterfalls, deep canyons and pits, and tight crawlways. It stretches for about 8 kilometers and is to be explored with an expert guide.
Our cave tour will begin with an introduction by an expert guide and a safety briefing. Then we'll be given all of the necessary equipment, such as helmets, torches, or spotlights... After that, we will begin our 1h30mn underground cave exploration. Although it will be a pleasant experience, keep in mind that the temperature inside the cave is close to 16 degrees and that there are some areas where water may get on your feet. It is therefore preferable to take a warm jacket and appropriate clothing just in case. (Level of difficulty: moderate)
