Intro to Linocut with Alie Mahoney

Join Alie Mahoney at The Local Art Gallery to explore linocut printmaking on Sunday, April 27 from 1-3pm.

Linocut printmaking is a really fun, rewarding process! This class will teach the basics of linocut from sketch to print. First we will sketch a simple flower and transfer the sketch to linoleum. Then we will use small gouges to carve the image, with a focus on tool safety. Finally, we will ink the carved linoleum and print it by hand. Reference images of echinacea flowers will be provided, but students are welcome to bring their own reference image of a simple flower if desired. Students are also welcome but not required to bring a wooden spoon for the printing process.

We will be working with water-based ink that can stain clothes. Aprons will not be provided, so please wear something you don't mind getting inky (or bring your own apron).

$40, includes all materials. Ages 12+ with an adult.

Artist bio:
Alexandra Mahoney has been making prints for many years and loves sharing the process with others. She has taught students of all ages in Colorado and Massachusetts. Her work is inspired by the patterns and textures in nature. She also enjoys bringing other's visions to life for album covers, event posters, shirts, etc.
