The Women’s Self-defense Class begins June 23rd at Teikiatsu Judo 2337 230th Street
Ames IA suite 201. Open to women aged 18 and up. This class will run for five weeks,
meeting twice a week on Monday and Wednesday afternoon at 5:15pm and will end at
6:15. Participants are asked to wear loose-fitting comfortable clothes such as T-shirts and
yoga pants or sweatpants. Master Matt Hamann, assistant teaching professor at Iowa State
University and the head instructor for the ISU martial arts clubs, will be the primary
instructor for the class. Mr. Hamann holds black belts in Taekwondo, Hapkido, Aikido, and
Judo. He has also trained in Kendo, Kenjutsu, as well as other martial arts. He will be
assisted by Mrs. Carol Scheid 6th degree black belt in Judo, and owner of Teikiatsu Judo. In
this class we will explore self-defense movements and techniques tailored to your
individual strength by examining various scenarios of attacks and situations we can apply
different martial arts techniques to help us achieve maximum efficiency to minimize the
risk of injury. The class participants will explore techniques and aspects of different martial
arts including but not limited to Judo, Jujitsu, Hapkido, and Karate for developing strategies
