Exploring our Wonderful World with Vicky

Come join us for a pop-up Recreational Therapy opportunity for people with early-stage dementia and memory loss with Vicky at 1325 McKean Rd, Ambler, PA 19002.

During People, Places & Things - Exploring our Wonderful World, participants will enjoy culture, conversation, and community as we explore what makes our fascinating world go round. We will share a wide range of intellectually stimulating topics, engage in some fun and challenging games, enjoy a karaoke-style sing-along, and much more.

Vicky Hart, CTRS, DCP is a Nationally Certified Recreational Therapist and Dementia Care Practitioner who will guide participants through an intellectually stimulating and socially engaging program of ideas and topics that serve as a basis for conversation and social connection. Participants will be encouraged to share their thoughts, opinions, and reminiscences as we explore and enjoy our amazing world. Topics may include history, biography, current events, science, humor, and the arts. In addition to discussion topics, we will enjoy group games and puzzles, sing-alongs, meditation, gentle movement, and other supported activities. Each program concludes with time for socialization among the participants.

PLEASE NOTE BEFORE REGISTERING:

• The participant should have a diagnosis of early stage memory loss or cognitive impairment

• The participant should be able to generally follow a conversation

• The participant should be able to answer questions when put to them and stay relatively on topic without prompting from the care partner

• The participant should be able to sit for 60 minutes without wandering

• The participant should not engage in socially inappropriate behavior, such as shouting, interrupting, or demonstrating excessive mood swings (anxiety, anger, sadness)

• The particicant should be able to be redirected if necessary (such as when going off topic)

• The participant should be oriented to self and place

• A care partner MUST be available at the location for the full duration of the event. We will ask for their name and contact information during the sign-up process.
