🧱 BRICK & MORTAR: The Building Blocks of The Queer Community Today
A Night of Queer History, Short Films & Drag at Idol Art Studio
✨ FREE ENTRY | 🍿 FREE POPCORN | 🎠LIVE DRAG
Join us for Brick & Mortar, an immersive, high-energy evening honoring the roots of queer resistance and the people who laid the groundwork—brick by brick—for today’s LGBT+ community.
This free community event blends live storytelling, short film screenings, and drag performance to explore the journey of queer liberation, from the quiet rebellion of pre-Stonewall days to the loud, proud movement we know today.
We’ll begin with a vivid look at queer life before the Stonewall Riots—how LGBTQ+ people survived, found joy, and pushed back in a world that refused to see them. Through historical storytelling, we’ll highlight the coded languages, secret spaces, and underground cultures that held our communities together long before Pride parades.
Then, we’ll screen our first short film:
Film 1: “How the Stonewall Riots Sparked a Movement” (4 minutes)
This short film explores the dramatic events of the Stonewall Riots, focusing on the voices and actions that catalyzed a global LGBTQ+ revolution.
Film 2: “The Queer Code: Secret Languages of LGBT+ Art” (11 minutes)
This captivating short film explores the hidden languages and symbols used by LGBTQ+ individuals in art, literature, and life to communicate in times of repression.
Our journey doesn’t stop there. We’ll continue through the post-Stonewall era and reflect on the icons and events that shaped modern queer history. We’ll celebrate the trailblazers who pushed boundaries and made their voices heard.
Before we wrap up the night, we'll show the final short film:
Film 3: “In a Heartbeat” (4 minutes)
An emotional, animated short film that beautifully tells a story of love, connection, and identity—capturing the essence of queer emotion in a world that often misunderstands it.
🎤 And of course, Finn Icky—our non-binary masc drag king—will take the stage for their live performances, bringing fierce energy and unapologetic queer pride. Finn will open and close the event with two unforgettable performances that blend gender expression, storytelling, and love for the community.
So come for the films, stay for the history, and live for the performance. Whether you’re a seasoned activist, a community member, an ally, or just curious—this night is for you.
