Course Description
Increasing patient awareness and demand for minimally invasive treatment options calls for dental providers to expand their clinical training beyond conventional surgical interventions. This interactive course will interweave hands-on experiences throughout the lecture component. Dr. MacLean will review the scientific evidence for minimal interventions including silver diamine fluoride (SDF), glass ionomer cement (GIC) sealants, and atraumatic restorative treatment (ART). Evidence based clinical practice guidelines emphasize the benefits of more conservative tooth preparation. Dr. MacLean will review the evidence for selective caries removal, including the use of chemomechanical caries removal agents (PapaCarie Duo). The hands-on portion will include step-by-step clinical placement of resin modified glass ionomer (RMGI) and glass hybrid restoratives (EQUIA Forte) for fillings and strip crowns. Attendees will increase their confidence and mastery of these materials and techniques so they can immediately implement them into their clinical practices.
