This week we host an evening of jazz led by the rich, evocative saxophone of Liam Byrne.
Byrne is widely regarded as a true guardian of the jazz tenor saxophone tradition. His playing is distinguished by a beautifully warm tone and an understated, yet deeply expressive, approach that evokes the golden era of jazz. Drawing inspiration from iconic figures such as the legendary Lester Young and the soulful Ben Webster, Byrne's musicality speaks volumes through its melodic depth and understated elegance. He is a respected figure on the British jazz circuit, having performed alongside a who's who of leading musicians, including celebrated clarinetist Alan Barnes, veteran trumpeter Digby Fairweather, dynamic trumpeter Bruce Adams, and revered trombonist Roy Williams. Byrne's commitment to the authentic sound of the tenor saxophone has earned him a reputation as a musician of integrity and profound artistry, ensuring an evening of truly classic jazz.
Joining Byrne on stage is the truly exceptional pianist Tom Kincaid. Kincaid's playing is a masterclass in versatility, effortlessly blending the dazzling intricacy and virtuosity reminiscent of stride piano legend Art Tatum with the relaxed, lyrical charm of Erroll Garner. His uncanny ear and undeniably swinging feel have established him as one of Europe's most sought-after pianists. Kincaid's illustrious career has seen him accompany a remarkable array of artists across various genres, from the soulful vocals of Elkie Brooks and the classic jazz saxophone of Scott Hamilton, to British jazz luminaries like Art Themen and Alan Barnes, and even rock and roll icon Shakin' Stevens. Audiences can anticipate being utterly captivated by his dynamic touch and masterful command of the keyboard.
As always, the evening will be grounded by Alsager’s esteemed house rhythm section: the impeccable Peter Robinson on bass and the ever-swinging Roger Keay on drums, providing the perfect accompaniment for this stellar quartet.
