Wine and cheese with Tom Cadwallender
The cliffs, offshore Islands and estuaries of the Northumberland coast are the chosen breeding haunts for a range of vulnerable and specialist shore and seabirds. Some of these special habitats will teem with Puffins, Terns, Fulmars, Auks and more. Whilst the rarest seabird of them all, the Roseate Tern, also nests on the Northumberland coast. This presentation will look in detail at some of the strategies, journeys and breeding biology of many of the familiar and not so familiar species that travel from afar, and not so far, to spend the summer in this fabulous part of the world.
Born and raised Northumbrian, Tom Cadwallender is currently a freelance ornithologist, Vlogger, broadcaster, lecturer, traveller and most importantly a Birdwatcher. Tom has been studying birds, particularly waders and seabirds, for well over five decades and has a rich in-depth knowledge of many species. A British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) diehard, appointed BTO Regional Representative for Northumberland in 1991, and enjoys nothing more than counting birds for conservation, financial gain and fun, and he will spread the 'ornithological word' to anyone who will listen.
