Miwa Nagato-Apthorp is a singer-songwriter and artist based in Hawick in the Scottish Borders. Her practice is often collaborative and draws on Japanese and Scottish folk traditions, exploring Miwa's dual heritage and multicultural understandings of history, climate, gender and home.
Miwa has performed her music at various festivals, including Celtic Connections, and as part of John McCusker's Southside of the Tracks, and was recently Anna Massie's guest on BBC Radio Scotland's Travelling Folk show. She recently released her debut EP 'Noren' - an outcome of a residency with Alchemy Film & Arts in Hawick.
She has been described as "a visceral new voice of Scottish folk" - so we are rather delighted that Miwa has agreed to come and do a house concert the intimate setting of our Garden Room here in Alnwick! She will play a set of her own songs, and a set of her favourite traditional Border songs.
