Writer Kate McIntyre and Interdisciplinary artist Cathleen Faubert, residents from the Spring 2024 Volland Residency return for a self-directed residency to collaborate on a project inspired by their previous time at Volland.
Kate lives in Worcester, Massachusetts, but she spent her childhood in central Kansas, and most of her writings hearken back to the tallgrass prairie where she grew up. Kate has a singular appreciation for the unruly growth and energy hidden beneath the native grasses of the prairie.
Cathleen (Cat) lives in Norman, Oklahoma, and has been developing an olfactory art practice relating to land and local ecology for a number of years. She gathers organic material and extracts essential oil, hydrosol and/or tinctured absolutes creating a unique “scent map” of each landscape she visits.
You are invited to their Open Studio on Saturday, August 9, at 2pm to see how the literary arts fuse with an olfactory practice - words meet fragrance! Enjoy a stimulating, relaxing afternoon in the Flint Hills at Volland. Free admission. All are welcome. Come as you are and bring the kids. There will be cookies.
