Broomcorn Brushes Workshop

Step into the wonderfully tactile world of traditional brush making in this hands-on, immersive workshop celebrating beautiful, natural fibres and heritage craft.

Guided throughout by expert tuition, you’ll discover time-honoured brush construction techniques using three distinctive plant-based materials: broomcorn (Sorghum vulgare), arenga (Arenga pinnata), and tampico (Agave lechuguilla). Each fibre has its own character, strength and texture - and you’ll learn exactly how and why they’re used.

Working step by step, you’ll prepare, bind and shape the fibres by hand, gaining a real understanding of how they behave and how to transform them into something both practical and beautiful. There’s something deeply satisfying about turning loose natural fibres into a functional tool you’ll use every day.

During the session, you’ll create three very different, fully functional brushes:

•Mini Broom – perfect for sweeping crumbs from keyboards, shelves or hearths
•Wooden-Handled Sweeping Brush – a beautifully handcrafted companion for your dustpan
•Traditional Appalachian-Style Brush – a sturdy, heritage-inspired brush built to last

Whether you’re drawn to traditional crafts, love working with natural materials, or simply fancy trying something completely different, this workshop offers a mindful, hands-on experience with skills rooted in the past but perfectly suited to modern living.

By the end of the evening, you’ll head home with three handcrafted brushes, a solid grounding in traditional brush-making techniques, and the quiet pride that comes from creating something truly useful with your own hands.
