About this Event

Are you looking for ways to bring the magic of materials science to your classroom? In this in-person workshop, you’ll learn how to teach key materials science concepts to your students with engaging, hands-on activities. You’ll explore the science behind ceramics, glass, composites, metals, and more—and learn how these materials connect to products your students use every day.

During the day-long workshop, you’ll have the chance to:

Hot or Not? Heat a refractory brick on one side while the other side stays cool to the touch.
Candy Fiber Pull: Melt Jolly Ranchers and see how the long fibers resemble fiberglass.
How Strong is your Chocolate? Test different chocolate bars and find out which one can hold the most weight.

• Discover careers in materials science by chatting with local professionals at an industry luncheon
• Receive a FREE Materials Science Classroom Kit (valued at $250) to use in your own classroom!
• Earn 7 Contact Hours (equal to 0.7 Continuing Education Credits)

Previous materials science experience is not required! We encourage all disciplines of science teachers to attend, ranging from anatomy and biology to chemistry and physics and more.

Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m., with the workshop starting promptly at 9:00 a.m.

To secure a spot at the event, a $15 deposit is required during registration. This deposit ensures your commitment to attending. After you attend the event in person, the full $15 will be refunded to you.
