Guest speaker and the AGM.

The Guild's AGM is being held on Saturday, 4th of October. Prior to the meeting, member and newsletter editor, Margaret Ford will be giving a talk about her travels and the lovely items she has collected.

"The jacket was made for me in Samarkand, Uzbekistan in about 2017 from a tent hanging. The embroidery is known as suzani and in this example is done predominantly in a kind of chain stitch made with a tambour on a vertical frame.The jacket embroidery is worked on a dark coloured woven fabric but one of the detailed images is of another uncut cloth worked on a more traditional “white” woven background. The motifs traditionally had significant magical importance. For example, cloths with these motifs were used to protect the occupants of a tent or the wedding and bridal bed of a newly married couple."

Margaret's talk commences at 11am and the AGM starts at 1pm - bring your lunch.
