West coast swing is a smooth, slotted, and playful partner dance that has been rapidly gaining popularity across the globe. It is danced to a wide range of genres (including blues, pop, hip hop, funk, contemporary, jazz, etc.) and blends structure and musical improvisation, allowing both partners to express themselves uniquely on the dance floor.
West coast swing builds strong fundamentals in timing, connection, and movement - skills that often carry over into other dance styles. So join the fun and learn one of the most versatile and fun partner dances around!
In this extended beginner-friendly session, we’ll cover the fundamental concepts, basic rhythm, and partnered connection, all at a relaxed pace so you can get comfortable with the basics and feel confident on the dance floor in two 45 minute sections with a 15 minute break in-between.
Additionally, on Sunday October 12th, Mara will be a part of The Beltway Connection’s lesson and social in Alexandria VA. Participants of this workshop will be able to take what they’ve learned on the dance floor at this event for free (a $15 registration fee is typically required)! So join the fun and learn one of the most versatile and fun partner dances around!
