Two of Sydney’s most hypnotic, atmospheric acts THE VEIL and SVNTAX ERROR share a stage for the first time for a special co-headlining show at The Vanguard. Both bands will play extended sets, with special guests FOXLORE making a rare live appearance to open the night.
THE VEIL
With a distinctive sound that draws from Doom and classic Post-Punk, with elements of Shoegaze, Black Metal and dark Folk, The Veil bring a lush and atmospheric melancholy, interspersed with heaviness and aggression. A long celebrated and distinctive element in the Australian underground music scene that is constantly evolving and always engaging.
The band have shared stages with Alcest, Anathema, Uriah Heep, Nazxul and Pantheist among others, and also made an appearance at the cult Dublin Doom Days festival.
Having recently returned from a hiatus with renewed vigour and a powerful new lineup, The Veil have been hard at work on the follow up to their acclaimed release Impermanence, with the long awaited third album now in its final stages.
“Next it was time for The Veil. Now back in full band mode with keyboard player Georgina Lloyd and new drummer Bunga Keinanti added since I last saw them…it didn’t take long for them to fill the room with Gothic melancholia. Pinned by Keinanti’s intricate drumming and guided by Che deBoehmler’s dark and evocative vocals, The Veil’s dramatic music is sweeping, multifarious and epic, mesmerising the crowd.”

SVNTAX ERROR
Theremin fuelled & guitar laden indie psychedelic post-rock for the apocalypse. Svntax Error’s music is created through the clashing of disparate influences in improvisation, leading to either harsh combustion or new & strange musical mutations. The music blurs spontaneity with composition, melody with noise, chaos with structure, light with shade.
Formed in 2016, Svntax Error have released two albums 'Message' and 'The Vanishing Existence’, and are currently mixing their third, as yet untitled album, all released through Australian indie label Bird’s Robe Records. They have toured the Australian East Coast with Japanese post rock legends MONO and Swiss band Hubris, and performed at Belgium’s seminal Dunk! Festival alongside the cream of instrumental, post and experimental rock.
‘Drawing influences from Mogwai, The Cure, Nick Cave, The Dirty Three and more, the Sydney-based band have earned a reputation for thrilling sonic explorations making use of hypnotic grooves, wailing theremins and of course, a post-rockers penchant for delay pedals.’
- Jacopo Vigezzi, Progressive Rock Journal
‘Brilliant, creative, beautifully atmospheric and dripping with talent.’
- Les Chatwin, Uncle Les Talks Music
