We're proud to announce the release of the newest addition to our Hop Series: "Spite House", a bold and unapologetic West Coast IPA, available starting October 17th.
Alexandria is known for their Spite Houses, claiming the smallest home in America. These building's namesakes - "Spite House" - come from John Hollensbury, the original owner at 532 Queen Street. He reportedly built the house in 1830 to stop people loitering in the alley adjoining his house and to prevent wagon-wheel hubs from damaging the house's exterior walls. There are actually 4 Spite Houses throughout town!
We took inspiration from this historic feature of Alexandria for "Spite House". Our new beer is named with a nod to the sharp edges and small rebellions that define both architectural oddities and craft brewing innovation. "Spite House" is everything you'd expect from a classic West Coast IPA — and then some. Pouring a bright, clear gold with a crisp white head, this beer hits the palate with assertive bitterness and bright, punchy hop character. Layers of pine, papaya, and resinous citrus dominate the aroma and flavor, supported by a clean malt backbone that lets the hops do all the talking.
In addition to a delicious beer, we have invited local mystery author, John Wasowicz, to showcase his newest novel named after the same feature of Alexandria: Spite House! The house is the backdrop for the 7th installment and most intriguing mystery. He will be tabling with an Alexandrian Spite House owner himself, Brendan O’Leary. Stop by the event to talk to both of them from 6-8pm and sip this historic beer!
"Spite House" will be available on draft and 16oz cans to go. Kegs and cans will hit bottle shops, bars, and markets the following few weeks.
