The “Advanced Restorative Techniques for Oral Health Professionals” course is designed for Oral Health Therapists (OHTs) and Dental Therapists (DTs) looking to enhance their clinical skills in advanced restorative procedures. This hands-on course covers essential techniques and procedures that are vital for the effective management of more complex cases in clinical practice. Participants will gain a deeper understanding, practical knowledge and confidence in the following areas:

1. Cvek Pulpotomies: · Explore the principles and techniques of Cvek pulpotomies, including case selection, material choices, and post-operative care. · Understand the biological basis for maintaining pulpal vitality in traumatised permanent teeth

. 2. Cusp Capping: · Master the techniques of cusp capping for the preservation of tooth structure and prevention of further damage. · Review the materials and methods used to ensure long-term success and patient comfort. · Understand the indications of where cusp capping is indicated and what other treatment options can be provided to patients.

3. Placement of Pins: · Gain expertise in the safe and effective placement of pins as a means of additional retention in restorative procedures. · Learn about the indications, contraindications, and step-by-step procedures for pin placement in various clinical scenarios.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this course, participants will be able to: · Successfully conduct Cvek pulpotomies and cusp capping procedures, preserving pulp vitality and ensuring the longevity of restorative work. · Apply advanced techniques in the placement of pins, cusp capping and cuspal replacement restorations, enhancing the stability and success of complex restorations. Teaching Methodology: This course includes a blend of interactive lectures, live demonstrations, and practical hands-on sessions using simulation models. Participants will have the opportunity to practice techniques under supervision, ensuring they gain confidence and competence in each skill. Assessment: Participants’ understanding and skills will be assessed through direct observation during practical sessions and a final case-based evaluation to ensure readiness for clinical application.

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a certificate recognising their advanced skills in these critical areas of clinical practice. This course is designed to elevate the clinical capabilities of OHTs and DTs, empowering them to manage more complex cases with confidence and precision, ultimately leading to improved patient outcomes.

Please note this course is NOT available to dental hygienists as this is out of scope

These techniques are already taught for OHTs at selected Universities within Australia and are part of scope for OHTs. OHTs who have previously not learnt this in their undergraduate degree are able to undertake this course and increase their personal scope to be within the existing scope of OHTs in Australia

It is up to the individual practitioner to determine their own competency for scope

Continuing Professional Development and Scope of Practice in Oral Health

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is a vital tool for dental professionals to enhance their skills and knowledge, ensuring the delivery of the highest standard of patient care. CPD provides opportunities for oral health professionals, including Oral Health Therapists (OHTs), dental therapists and dental hygienists, to expand their expertise and refine their practice within their existing scope.

It is important to note, however, that CPD does not extend a professional's scope of practice beyond what is outlined in current guidelines. The scope for each role is defined by regulatory authorities, and while CPD can help professionals work to the top of their scope, it cannot create new responsibilities or tasks outside of these established boundaries.

At Level UP CPD, we are proud to offer a restorative course that aligns with these principles. The course focuses on skills already taught to OHTs in universities across Australia and remains well within the existing scope for OHTs . This course provides an excellent opportunity for OHTs and Dental Therapists (DTs) who may not have covered these restorative skills during their undergraduate studies to enhance their personal competencies. By building on their foundational knowledge, participants can refine their techniques and ensure they are practicing at the highest level within their defined scope.

Continuing education empowers professionals to excel within their roles, ensuring patient care remains safe, effective, and evidence-based. Let’s continue advancing our skills while respecting the parameters that uphold our profession’s integrity!
