This is a weekend to explore hand stitching and the fact that a lowly running stitch can be turned into simply stunning stitches to embellish and decorate your work.
We will begin on Saturday morning with some foundation piecing using a sewing machine. You can either choose to do this ‘free style’ or using a simple foundation pieced pattern, which I can provide. This will give us the basis of our blocks that we will then focus on to embellish.
The rest of the weekend will be spent hand stitching, taking our patterns and stitching them along seams and onto our blocks in our own unique ways. Guidance will be given for stitching and recommendations on threads will be provided on booking.
When thinking about your fabric choice, you want to ensure that your embroidery will stand out on the fabric. As you can see from the sample below, I used offcuts from a jelly roll which was bright batiks but the threads used for stitching are also bright and are contrasted on the fabrics. This is a chance to dive into your stash and see what you have available. We will focus on 10” blocks but of course, you can create smaller or larger blocks, so fabric options are then more plentiful if using your stash.
This is a weekend course, but if you are only able to make one day, then please do contact me as space may be available to cater for this.
