Experience a powerful evening of music spanning centuries in the stunning surroundings of Douai Abbey.
Reading Bach Choir joins forces with Concerts in Caversham to present a bold and moving programme featuring Caroline Shaw’s To the Hands, a haunting response to modern-day displacement inspired by Buxtehude’s moving cantata cycle Membra Jesu Nostri, and her evocative string piece Entr’acte.
Telemann’s lyrical Viola Concerto brings Baroque elegance and charm, performed by the CinC Ensemble with soloist Wenhan Jiang from the RPO, while Bach’s gripping Easter cantata Christ lag in Todes Banden, BWV 4, offers a dramatic and uplifting finale.
From the raw intimacy of contemporary choral textures to the triumphant joy of Baroque celebration, this concert promises a unique and emotionally rich journey through time.
ConcertsinCaversham was established fourteen years ago by pianist/harpsichordist Adrienne Black and her husband the late Timothy Watts - oboist with the RPO.
Based within the heart of the Caversham community and using some of this country’s finest musicians from all of the main London orchestras, as well as some of the best freelance musicians on the circuit, they continue to promote top professional concerts playing to packed audiences at St Andrew's Church, Caversham.
