More about the artist:
"I make paper collages out of images from back-issue fashion, nature and home décor magazines, glued to pieces of scrap cardboard. I enjoy subverting social expectations, particularly in regard to beauty and the construct of celebrity. I use shapes and colors that flow with one another aesthetically, but that don't go together in any logical or functional way. The results are both visually satisfying and emotionally jarring. Glamorous supermodels will be clothed in slices of rare steak. Eyes will be replaced by diamonds, hair by flowers--anything to interrupt that normative Hollywood fantasy that you anticipate finding on every billboard and every screen around you. I find that by altering that which has already been altered, by coating the facade in something unexpected, shocking, even vulgar, one ironically restores authenticity to the image and opens up an important dialogue about what is real and fake, and about individuality as a form of protest in the face of pressure to conform and assimilate. In my mind, found art is the most effective way to acknowledge that nothing is new--that all ideas already exist, having been manufactured, polished, and shoved in our faces since prehistory; that the only way to find originality anymore is to gather the broken pieces of what is and rearrange them in a way nobody has ever thought of before."
