First Event Committee Meeting

Friends of Albuquerque Pagan Pride Day, we are excited to start the ball rolling for this year's event! We have a new board of directors, and we plan to emphasize community and support for our volunteers.

We face a challenging year ahead. Times are more uncertain than at any point in our event’s history. The need for both community engagement and morale within the local pagan community, as well as our critical fundraising to help our local ABQ residents who face food uncertainty, has never been more important. Especially given the catastrophic federal budget cuts to food pantries around the country, the need for events like the Food Drive at Pagan Pride Day has never been higher.

This year is going to be a little different. ABQPPD has been struggling for a while to match volunteer engagement with the size of the event. To be blunt, we can’t keep pulling off a huge event with the levels of volunteers we’ve had at the last few events. So, it’s time to strategize ways to get things done more efficiently, and we may need to trim areas this year that aren’t well-staffed. Even if we need to scale back, it simply gives us an opportunity to focus on the essentials, and then scale up again as volunteer engagement grows. However, this means that this year at least, the events and activities that take place at ABQPPD will be the ones that people are passionate enough about to show up and make happen.

There are a lot of other concerns facing us this year that will be addressed at the first Event Coordinator meeting. Please join us on May 17th at 5:30 pm in the Arnold Room at First Unitarian Church. This will be a hybrid meeting, and we will have Zoom set up for those who wish to be involved but live outside Albuquerque. Zoom details will follow soon.
