We are so glad to announce that this Sunday, September 7 2025/2568, LP Chalee Hermitage will be hosting the Patimokkha Recitation Ceremony.
The Bhikkhu Patimokkha is the list 227 rules observed by Buddhist monks, and traditionally recited together every fortnight (on the full and new moons.) This tradition goes back to the time of the Buddha, and is deeply important to preserving the monastic community. This wonderful event has been arranged by Ajahn Woody from Wat Ariyamagga (OAOR) during this auspicious time of the Vassa/Pansa (Buddhist Rains Retreat), and brings together bhikkhus (monks) from many different temples and nations to observe their ancient tradition together.
This is a very special opportunity for laypeople as well, getting to see a crucial part of the monastic tradition. It is particularly difficult here in the United States where there are relatively few monks, and it can be hard to arrange for this observance.
The event will include offering lunch to monks at appx. 11:00 am, and then the lay community will enjoy lunch together as well. The recitation of Patimokkha will start appx. 1:00 pm. Times are subject to change as circumstances dictate.
We look forward to see you, and wish you all supreme blessings of the Buddha, Dhamma and Sangha. May you all be well.
