In 1975, Dame Whina Cooper led a 1,100km hīkoi from Te Hāpua to Parliament, uniting thousands in protest at the loss of Māori land. Filmmaker Geoff Steven’s Te Matakite o Aotearoa captures this defining moment in Aotearoa’s history, following the hikoi from its beginnings in the Far North to its powerful arrival at Parliament.
