Society Hall, the performance space, concert hall and community gathering place at 400 Ross Ave. in Alamosa, is excited to welcome back Texas western singer songwriter Mike Blakely with his equally stellar compadres John Arthur Martinez and John M. Greenberg, performing together as “The Outlaw Firm”, in concert Friday July 11th, at 7:30 PM. Doors will open at 6:30 pm. Tickets are $20 and are available at the Green Spot in Alamosa or at the link below. The concert will also stream live on the Society Hall Facebook page and You-Tube channel.
Three musical journeymen who have performed around the world individually and together for over a quarter of a century, made it official a few years back and joined forces in a trio called “The Outlaw Firm”. This trifecta of Texas Hill Country singer/songwriters includes Mike Blakely, John M. Greenberg and John Arthur Martinez. The "Outlaws" are currently touring around the west supporting their new second album release, “The Outlaw Firm II”.
Floyd Tillman, member of the Country Music Association Hall of Fame, introduced Blakely to Martinez in 1987 at “Floyd Tillman’s Pickin’ in the Park,” a concert series hosted by Martinez in Marble Falls, Texas. Blakely had penned a feature on Floyd Tillman’s life for Texas Highways magazine. A few years later, Larry Nye – owner of Lazy L Studio in Kingsland, Texas – introduced Greenberg, the new kid in town (Marble Falls) to Blakely and Martinez. Nye produced separate solo albums for the three songwriters over the following years.
About three years ago, the trio made the decision to form The Outlaw Firm. They recorded both their first, self-titled album and their second at Martinez’s studio near Horseshoe Bay. Their first independent release consists of nine new, original songs written by the band members, and a tenth number penned by up-and-coming songwriting phenom, Jake Martin. They have recently followed up with their new “Outlaw Firm II” in the same vein, again featuring their own unique blend of styles and influences. Both albums are available for digital downloads, in USB format, and on vinyl lp.
The Outlaw Firm’s sound incorporates all that is sacred to Western, Alt-country and Tex-Americana Music fans, embracing country, blues, folk-rock, conjunto, western swing and TexAmericana. The trio features precise three-part harmonies, multiple stringed instruments, and heart-pounding percussion. The Outlaw Firm members encourage you to “Outlaw boredom and escape the mundane. Come ride the desperado fringe with The Outlaw Firm!”
The Society Hall board, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing a place for community celebrations of all kinds, invites everyone to join them in the hall, at 400 Ross Avenue in Alamosa for some lively, rousing Western and Tex-Americana music with the All-Star trio “The Outlaw Firm”, Friday July 11th at 7:30 PM!
